Like his father, Mosiah wishes to transfer the kingdom while he is still alive. Obviously, he was still capable of translating the text of our book of Ether. Nevertheless, he may be aware of his approaching death, which Mormon reports in this chapter (v. 46). Obviously, Mosiah was ready to pass on the kingship and the people continued to want a king, but the throne had no heir.
