“After King Mosiah Had Done These Things He Took the Plates of Brass, and All the Things Which He Had Kept, and Conferred Them Upon Alma”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

When Mosiah had at length finished the work of translating the plates King Limhi had given into his keeping, he took all the sacred articles that had been given into his care and gave them into the custody of Alma, the younger. He also instructed Alma as to the manner that they were to be preserved by him.

Mosiah made it a special obligation on Alma's part, to hand them to whosoever was appointed to be his successor, and thereby continue the custom begun by Nephi when his father, together with Lehi's family, departed out of Jerusalem. (See Words of Mormon, v. 11. )
