“Priests and Teachers Should Labor… for Their Support”

There is not, nor can there be, a professional priesthood in the Lord’s Church. Those called to preside hold no more priesthood than those elders who sustain them. The servants of the Lord in all ages have been called from the body of the Church and in most instances have continued to provide for themselves and their families by the labors of their own hands. The Lord’s Church is a kingdom without a royal court, traditional nobility, gentry, social rankings, or any sort of caste system. In it all are to be esteemed as one. See commentary on Mosiah 18:24.
