“This People Who Are Willing to Bear My Name they Are Mine”

Bryan Richards

This verse is instructive because it reveals the blessing received by those who are willing to bear the name of Christ. If we take upon ourselves his name, we become his sons and daughters. In effect, we become his very possession—we are His, purchased with his own blood (Acts 20:28). The message is clear, if we are willing to bear his name, He is willing to claim us on judgment day. If we are not ashamed of his name, he will not be ashamed of us before the Father but will make intercession for us. For behold, in my name are they called; and if they know me they shall come forth, and shall have a place eternally at my right hand (v. 24). Of course, the converse is also true, whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory (Lu 9:26).
