A single day’s distance between the Lamanites and Alma’s people certainly wasn’t enough distance for them to feel safe. Yahweh tells Alma that the Lamanites are in pursuit. A group this size would normally leave clues of their journey that could be followed, at least for a few days, although the army pursuing the Limhites lost their trail after only two days (Mosiah 22:16).
