Little or no effort is made in the Book of Mormon to detail or explain the nature of priesthood and Church government-no systematic treatment of such matters as priesthood offices, quorums, councils, or even the organization of the Church itself. Such was not its purpose: the Book of Mormon is more a narrative of a family than an ecclesiastical history. What it makes abundantly clear, however-the Nephite prophets leave no question-is the necessity for the ordinances of salvation and the proper authority to perform them.
