“Ammon and His Brethren Were Filled with Sorrow”

Brant Gardner

Redaction: Ammon’s version does not mention sorrow at the slain Limhites. Certainly he and his party sorrowed, but the slain would have been strangers to them. While their grief was general—and Limhi recorded it as an appropriate response—it was apparently less important to Ammon. In short, this passage is not a mere copy of Mosiah 8. Rather, it shows the subtle variations of a different writer with a different perspective on the same event.
