Before Ammon arrived in the land, Limhi had sent out a search party to find Zarahemla. The searchers got lost, found a desolate land, and returned with twenty-four gold plates that turned out to be the record of the ancient Jaredites prepared by Ether (Ether 1:2; Mosiah 8:9).
