One of the overarching purposes of the Church in any age is to bring the Saints to a unity of the faith (see Ephesians 4:13): to help them to rise above petty jealousies and insecurities, to motivate them to transcend self and look to the needs of others, and to cause them to seek and obtain that quality of love which is Christlike.
