“May the Spirit of the Lord Be Poured Out”

Baptism of the water is preparatory to the reception of the Holy Ghost, that which the scriptures call the baptism of fire. One is not truly born again until he receives and enjoys the enlivening and sanctifying powers of this Spirit in his life. As the covenant of baptism is renewed in the partaking of the sacrament, so the promise of the outpouring of the Spirit is renewed also (see Moroni 4:3; Moroni 5:2; D&C 20:77, 79).
