“Therefore, if Ye Teach the Law of Moses”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Abinadi brought his great sermon to an end with the conclusion that the Law of Moses is but a foreshadowing of the Atoning Sacrifice of Christ. He warned the priests of King Noah to teach "it is a shadow of those things which are to come." "Teach them that redemption cometh through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. Amen."

When we read the prophetic sermon by Abinadi, we think of the 23rd Psalm of King David. "Yea, though I walk through the valley in128 the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Thy rod and thy staff is the Word of God. The Bible and the Book of Mormon bring comfort to every heart. They strengthen the weak, and uphold the falling; they give courage and hope from above.

In this beautiful poem the Psalmist sings of man's journey through life which he calls a valley. Always, he says that we are overshadowed by death. Life is a Valley, and death casts a shadow. But it has been said, "There can be no shadow unless there is sunshine." And that sunshine is the Word of the Lord; the word of Him who is the Son of Righteousness, the Light of the World.
