“Every… People Shall See Eye to Eye”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

For people to “see eye to eye” is for them to be united; it is an idiomatic expression similar in meaning to our being “of one mind.” In the millennial day those of every nation, kindred, and tongue will feel compelled to acknowledge the power of Israel’s God. “Yea, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess before him. Yea, even at the last day, when all men shall stand to be judged of him, then shall they confess that he is God; then shall they confess, who live without God in the world, that the judgment of an everlasting punishment is just upon them; and they shall quake, and tremble, and shrink beneath the glance of his all-searching eye.” (Mosiah 27:31; see also D&C 88:104.)

“All Shall See the Salvation of the Lord”

Describing the joyous day of Israel’s ultimate triumph, Isaiah wrote: “Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.”

This is but to say, “Israel, your redemption rests with the Lord. He alone can save you. By his power and none other will you be gathered from the four quarters of the earth. It is for him to restore you to that position of power and glory enjoyed in David’s day, and all the world shall see it and acknowledge that the God of heaven hath done it. All shall see that the victory rests with the Lord Jehovah.” (See also 3 Nephi 20:34-35; JST, Luke 3:5-11; D&C 133:2-3.) See also commentary on verse 8.
