No ritual performance is acceptable to the Lord that is not sustained by righteousness on the part of those participating in it (see Malachi 1:10). If the ritual of baptism be the example, it is of none effect unless it be accompanied by true repentance. Redemption comes only in and through the atonement of Christ (see 2 Nephi 2:6).
