The priests of King Noah, stiffnecked and conceited, demanded that Abinadi should be brought before them, and, then and there, answer any questions or any charges they might make against him. Their purpose was not to get knowledge, or to obtain understanding, but to subject him to their gibes and taunting accusations. Their spite was keen and unlimited; their hard hearts were like granite; they were destitute of grace. Instead of seeking truth, they hoped to ensnare Abinadi by placing in his way, the fouler's net. They loved vanity and sought for falsehood.
