Literary: These verses (4–6) are a structural parallel to Mosiah 9:9–12. As he did earlier, Zeniff sets the Lamanite actions in the context of his people’s economic activities. There is no historic need to repeat that his people tilled the ground except that it serves as a metaphor for Zeniffite prosperity, which ignites Lamanite greed both earlier and here.
