Having had their first military encounter with the Lamanites, Zeniff and his fellow Nephites determined to be prepared for any future difficulty. We do not know how many Nephites Zeniff had brought with him from Zarahemla twelve years earlier, but having 279 killed would have been a significant blow to the Nephites.
It was obvious that Zeniff and the Nephites had learned their lesson.
