“Began to Establish the Kingdom”

Brant Gardner

History: The aftermath of successfully driving the Lamanites from the lands of Lehi-Nephi and Shilom results in “establish[ing] the kingdom.” This phrase further emphasizes that the victory was territorial as much as it was a victory of manpower. Zeniff has firmly established his borders.

The second piece of information is that he begins to manufacture and stockpile arms. This detail corroborates the relative lack of preparation already noted (Mosiah 9:16). Zeniff rightly foresees the possibility of retaliatory attacks and is taking appropriate countermeasures.
