“The Covenant is a Righteous Covenant”

Monte S. Nyman

The born again experience gives you another father; you become a son or daughter of Jesus Christ through spiritual adoption (v. 7). He is the father of your eternal life. You have entered into a new family with Christ as your Father. Conditionally, you are free from sin, and also free to obtain salvation in the Celestial Kingdom. You are “in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life” (2 Nephi 31:18). The condition, however, is that you must be obedient to the commandments to the end of your mortal life (Mosiah 5:8).

King Benjamin repeats the declaration of the angel (3:17), “there is no other name given whereby salvation cometh” (v. 8). This is the name that King Benjamin promised to give them that could never be changed except by transgression (v. 11; see 1:11). Those who honor that name shall be found at the right hand of God, but those who do not will be called by another name and find himself on the left hand of God (vv. 9–10).
