“Willing to Enter into a Covenant”

Brant Gardner

This is the high point of the entire day’s address. Benjamin has brought them together to give them a new name (Mosiah 1:11), which springs from the covenant that his people now express their willingness to make. Such a covenant has no power unless it is voluntary. Benjamin realizes at this point that he has achieved his goal. The new covenant/new name will result in a unified community. Its internal divisions will be dissolved “in wisdom and order” (Mosiah 4:27). They themselves will dismantle the socio-economic disparities that separate them from each other.
