“His Sons and His Daughters”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

5. Those who are born again are received into a new family: they become the sons and daughters of Jesus Christ. As the Savior and foreordained Messiah, Jesus Christ became the “author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him” (Hebrews 5:9), and the Father’s gospel became his by adoption; thus we know it as the gospel of Jesus Christ. Things on earth are patterned after that which is in heaven.

God dwells in the family unit. Those who accept the gospel of Jesus Christ enter the family of Jesus Christ, take upon them the family name, and thus become inheritors of family obligations and family privileges. All must be born into the family of Christ by conversion. Because the hearts of the Saints are changed through faith on his name, they become the sons and daughters of their Lord (see Mosiah 5:7).
