“How Ye Ought to Impart of the Substance That Ye Have One to Another”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Living a Christlike life requires that we begin to take upon ourselves His divine nature (see 2 Peter 1:3–10; D&C 4:6). The Lord is the supreme benefactor of the needy, the bestower of mercy upon the helpless. He invites all to come unto Him, turning away none. Beneath the canopy of His goodness, we are all beggars. How then can we choose not to succor the beggars in our midst when we indeed are among them?

What are the fruits of possessing the love of God? When the love of God is within us, we have an overwhelming desire to do good to all. When we are fully aware of our utter dependence upon God for all things, then we are disposed to give freely to others who are in need.
