Verses 13 and 14 gave commands about what not to do. The people of this new covenant were not to do things that would create social strife. Now Benjamin turns to the positive instructions. Just as the negative instruction proscribed social strife, the positive instructions enhance social cohesiveness. In addition to giving others their due, this new society should embrace all members as a family and love and serve each other. The negative instruction highlighted the minimum standards. The positive instruction teaches the people the ideal.
