“Always Retain a Remission of Your Sins”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Remembrance brings blessings. King Benjamin reminds us, as part of our gratitude for having received a remission of our sins, to always ponder the goodness of God and retain in remembrance the following: God’s greatness, our nothingness (without the help of the Lord), His long-suffering toward us, the need for humility and daily prayer, and the need to stand steadfastly in the faith. By doing these, we will be filled with His love, retain a remission of our sins, and grow in the knowledge of His glory.

Think of what has just transpired in Zarahemla: King Benjamin has just brought his people to the point where they have repented in full faith, being “filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and peace of conscience” (Mosiah 4:3). He then guides the people toward a firm understanding of how they, having tasted the love of God, might assure the continuation of this divine blessing in their lives, and “always retain a remission of your sins” (Mosiah 4:12). We can go through precisely this same process as a continual experience in renewal and rejuvenation through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
