“Because of the Exceeding Faith Which They Had in Jesus Christ”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

The event now reported in the abridgment of Moroni is miraculous. The words of the angel, straight from the Lord, have a rejuvenating impact on the people, who experience an immediate transformation through the power of the Atonement. As King Benjamin finishes delivering the message to his people, he witnesses a singularly remarkable event—the members of his audience fall to the earth, having been given a startling new insight as to their need for the mercy of the Lord. Thus he sees that the Spirit has enabled them to view themselves from a higher perspective where mortal weaknesses are placed in sharp contrast with saintly patterns of living. Consequently, the process of repentance can proceed unimpeded even to the remission of sins and the ushering in of illuminating joy—“because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ” (Mosiah 4:3).
