Verse 22 has indicated that the people are “no more blameless,” and now assures them that this occasion, this sermon, this angelic text, has changed their status so that “they shall be judged, every man according to his works, whether they be good, or whether they be evil.” The hearing of the word has placed them under the power of the Word.
