“Blood Cometh of Every Pore”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Of the Gospel writers only Luke confirms this part of the angel’s Messianic prophecy. Describing Christ’s agony in Gethsemane, Luke said that the Savior “sweat as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (JST, Luke 22:44). Those refusing to repent must ultimately “suffer even as I,” the Lord told Joseph Smith, “which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit-and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink” (D&C 19:17-18).
