“I Shall Give This People a Name”

George Reynolds, Janne M. Sjodahl

Another purpose of King Benjamin in calling this conference of all the people over whom he reigned, was, that upon them he promised to confer a name, which because of their integrity and diligence in serving the Lord, they had merited. This name would distinguish them from all other people; it would be a sign to the Lamanites, and the Zoramites, and every other "ite" that, here, the people of King Benjamin served the Lord, that here, they kept the commandments of God. It is of great interest to us to know that as long as they did not transgress the laws of God, that name would always remain with them. That name was yet to be given them.
