“A King and a Ruler over This People”

It is interesting that the text designates Mosiah as “a” king and “a” ruler rather than “king and ruler,” or “the” king and “the” ruler. The other two references to his ordination also refer to him as “a” king and “a” ruler (see Mosiah 2:30; Mosiah 6:3). In sacred covenant, Benjamin’s people will take upon themselves the name of Christ. Christ is “the” king and “the” ruler of this people. Mosiah, a servant of Christ, is more properly to be thought of as “a” king and “a” ruler.
