“Keep the Commandments”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
A knowledge of the things of God is inseparably connected with obedience to the commandments of God. “If any man will do his [God’s] will, he shall know of the doctrine,” Christ testified (John 7:17). John added, “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4). In like manner, modern revelation attests that “knowledge and intelligence” are the offspring of “diligence and obedience” (D&C 130:19). Prophets of all ages have taught that God cannot be known nor can his gospel be understood by the carnally minded, the disobedient, or the rebellious (see Alma 12:9-11).
