Mormon made an abridgment of “the plates of Nephi,” meaning the book of Lehi; then he found the other set of Nephi’s plates (the “small plates,” containing a “small account of the prophets” Nephi, Jacob, and others). He included them in the collection of records he passed on to his son Moroni. We begin to see that there were many sets of plates kept by the ancients.
