“I Began to Feel a Desire for the Welfare of My Brethren”

Brant Gardner

The Nephites, after hearing Sherem’s confession and repenting, immediately wanted to share that message. So does Enos. It is this turning of interest from self to others that may mark the prophetic calling. All prophets would have had experiences similar to Enos’s in experiencing tangibly the forgiveness of sins. What makes them prophets is their ability to turn outward for the benefit of others. A prophet is no prophet if he keeps his knowledge to himself. The calling absolutely requires that one care deeply for others.
