“Hearkened No More to the Words of This Wicked Man”

W. Cleon Skousen

When the multitude suddenly realized that this confession was Sherem's last mortal words, they were astonished exceedingly. In fact, they were so overcome by the Spirit of God which descended upon them that they fell to the ground. When Jacob heard this apostate but repentant man finally bear his testimony and make his confession, it pleased Jacob because he had prayed that Sherem would be inspired to do this.

Because of the traumatic demonstration of God's power in striking Sherem to the earth, and then having him confess his errors and the deceit that he had perpetuated upon the people, they all resolved to abandon everything that he had taught. Unfortunately we will find that later on Satan reveals once again all of the things that Sherem had taught.
