“The Wild Branches Began to Be Plucked Off and to Be Cast Away”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

At the time of the Second Coming, the Millennium will begin. Those who have sown the seeds of wickedness will reap the rewards held in reserve for the wayward: they shall be destroyed by the brightness of the Lord’s coming and shall spend a thousand years repenting of their sins in hell. Their deliverance from the world of spirits will come at the time of the second resurrection, at the end of the thousand years.

During the thousand years of millennial splendor, righteousness will abound; peace and prosperity and good will shall be the order of the day; the veil separating the heavens and the earth shall be rent frequently; children shall be born and grow up without sin unto salvation; and the Saints on earth shall enjoy the consummate blessings of the Second Comforter- the personal presence of their Lord and Savior. In speaking of this glorious day to Jeremiah, Jehovah said:

“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34; see also Teachings, p. 149).
