“Prune Them”

Brant Gardner

Literature: This repetition of the plan is now given as instructions to the servant. Thus, the narrative structure has consisted of the discussion of the plan, its announcement, and now its implementation. The process of implementation will be cross-grafting the Gentiles with gathered Israel. As part of that process, some of the competing branches will be selectively destroyed. While the allegorical element may refer to the destruction of the wicked in the last days, it seems more directly related to a “pruning” of competing sects in Christianity and Judaism. Perhaps competing interpretations will be diminished, so that fewer competing voices will lead astray those who are returning to the covenant.
