Man’s preoccupation with his own merits and strengths- his overreliance upon the rational faculties-did much to undermine the simple faith of members in the meridian of time and contributed to the undoing of the Christian Church. They no longer found their strength in the mighty hand of the God of Jacob (see Genesis 49:24).
