“Let Us Go Down”

Brant Gardner

The branches manifest two aspects, tame and wild, meaning the division of the Lehites into the Nephites and Lamanites. The Lord and his servant find that all of the branches have become corrupt. The promise of the good branches was not fulfilled.

This part of the allegory deals with the fall of the Nephites from Yahweh’s grace so that they are no longer under his protective care. As the Book of Mormon concludes, the Nephites have become more sinful than the Lamanites. This is the time period represented by the allegorical visit.
