This section refers to what Mormons call “the Great Apostasy,” that time several generations after Christ when they believe the leadership of the church in Jerusalem began to fall away from the true gospel. Although the mother tree (Israel) has borne a great deal of fruit, it is not good fruit. For the third time, the allegory records the grief of the master gardener.
