“Only a Part of the Tree Hath Brought Forth Tame Fruit”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Those who were planted in a choice spot of ground -“a land which is choice above all other lands” (Ether 2:10)-are, of course, Lehi and his family. In general, by the meridian of time only the Nephites had brought forth “tame fruit”-fruit meet for repentance, lives worthy of the covenant family to which they belong. The Lamanites (meaning, broadly, the unbelievers) had brought forth “wild fruit,” acts of aggression, deeds of hatred, and a belief in false traditions and doctrines.
