“Went Down into the Vineyard to Labor”

Brant Gardner

Literature: The structure of the allegory creates multiple sets of promise/fulfillment pairs. The master declares that he will take an action, then that action is accomplished. The repetition of the elements not only advances the narrative but also emphasizes the faithfulness of Yahweh’s promise/fulfillment. The ultimate promise is his covenant with his people. While his people may not remain faithful to that covenant, Yahweh always will.
