What does the grafting process and preserving of the fruit represent in the allegory?

“To be grafted is to come to the knowledge of the true Messiah, join the true Church, and gather where the Saints of God are assembled in that day (see 1 Nephi 10:14). … The ‘fruit’ which the Lord preserves ‘unto himself’ seems to be those of Israel who accept the message of the gospel, receive the ordinances of salvation, and endure faithfully to the end” (McConkie and Millet, Doctrinal Commentary, 2:52).
