“I May Preserve the Fruit”

The “fruit” which the Lord preserves “unto himself” seems to be those of Israel who accept the message of the gospel, receive the ordinances of salvation, and endure faithfully to the end. The “natural fruit” is described later in the allegory as being “good and the most precious above all other fruit” (verse 61). The fruit are those persons who qualify for eternal life (see 1 Nephi 8:10-12; 1 Nephi 15:36; D&C 6:13; D&C 14:7.
