“by the Workings of the Spirit Which Is in Me”

Brant Gardner

Jacob has been speaking of prophesy, and now pronounces prophesy. On the theme of the "stiffneckedness" of the Jews, he prophesies that they will reject this Messiah that will be sent to them. Jacob refers to the Messiah as the "stone" and "foundation." In so doing he is intentionally echoing Isaiah: "Isa. 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste."
