Jacob expresses the central force behind his motivation—the hope that his readers will receive the message of the gospel with thanksgiving and rejoice over the knowledge that their progenitors and all previous prophets knew about the coming mission of Jesus Christ and believed in Him. The question of conscience for us today is this: Do we receive the Book of Mormon with thankful hearts and rejoice in the universal knowledge concerning the Savior and His atoning sacrifice on our behalf?
