“A Hope of His Glory”

Brant Gardner

Jacob is addressing a distant future audience. Assuming that the verb tenses are Jacob’s, rather than Joseph Smith’s, the phrase “had a hope of his glory” assumes an audience who will read these words after Christ’s birth and mission. Jacob not only declares his faith in Savior’s mission but also that all prophets had this understanding as their essential message. Jacob places himself in their company.
