This verse is clearly where we must understand these verses in terms of some context rather than a global pronouncement. The Lord has clearly commanded, but clearly isn’t against the idea at times. Therefore it is not specifically the plurality of legal marriages that is the real issue. Nevertheless, for Jacob there is a prohibition, and I suggest that Jacob’s reasons may provide the best clue as to what is going on.
