Because Jacob began by declaring that the Nephite men were committing whoredoms, he now announces that Yahweh commands monogamy to protect women’s chastity. However, if a woman is validly married, her “chastity” is not a problem as long as she does not commit adultery. Once again, Jacob is approaching a complex problem that focuses on his definition of marriage. A legally and religiously sanctioned marriage is not whoredom, nor is the wife unchaste.
