“Because Ye Were Proud in Your Hearts”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

How can anyone be proud? Proud of what? If we become proud because of all the things we possess, we must remember that they are not actually ours; all things belong to our Creator. If we start thinking we are better than someone else, we must remember that “the one being is as precious in [God’s] sight as the other.” The heavenly counsel to everyone is, as Paul wrote, “not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think” (Romans 12:3). “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself” (Galatians 6:3). And the Lord warns in our day, “If any man shall seek to build up himself, and seeketh not my counsel, he shall have no power, and his folly shall be made manifest” (D&C 136:19).
