No doubt many of the mothers and children were already aware of the abominations of their husbands and fathers. Jacob’s bold expressions, his call to repent, would revive many memories, poignant and painful memories, cold and bleak memories known only to those whose confidence and trust have been shattered by the callous infidelity of one with whom sacred covenants had been made.
