“Ye Have Been Obedient Unto the Word of the Lord”

Brant Gardner

Rhetoric: Jacob is still setting the stage by contrasting himself and his audience—his diligence versus his audience’s disobedience.

Jacob’s “as yet” is interesting—an indication that this sermon is not on a new subject but suggesting that there will yet be hope despite the condemnation he will pronounce. Obedience is still an option, thereby allowing the reconciliation of the audience to Jacob and to Yahweh.
