Nephi understood the destiny of the record that he was keeping. he knew that it would yet “spring forth out of the earth” (Psalms 85:11; Isaiah 45:8), carrying the testimony of those whose bodies had long since returned to the dust (see Isaiah 29:4; 2 Nephi 27:13).
